All U/13s and U/14s nippers are encouraged to participate in the Rookie Program. We believe Rookies are the future for our wonderful club and the program enables an easy transition from nippers to patrol.
The Rookie Program aims to introduce 13 and 14 year old males and females to patrol duties and to encourage them to continue in the SLSC movement, so they can become active patrol members. Rookies are able to assist in all rescue operations and perform any patrol duty under the guidance of the patrol captain or senior member. They are not expected to perform alone.
Rookies need to complete 20hrs of patrol time during the season or 25hrs if competing. All Rookies are issued with a uniform and a Passport book where patrol hours are recorded.
By the time the Rookies have finished the program in the 14s, they will have gained their SRC – Surf Rescue Certificate. Rookies then become our Cadet members
